Basic Recreational Canoe, Kayak, and Stand Up Paddleboard Lessons

Start with the basics! Our lesson on calm water is designed for folks who have never been in a kayak, canoe, or on a paddleboard before and for families with kids age 13 and older. This lesson is provided on the flat water of Bradys Run Park Lake.  Lesson will cover:

  1. Introduction to canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and basic safety equipment.
  2. Entering, exiting, and maneuvering the boat.
  3. Basic paddle strokes.

American Canoe Association Stand Up Paddleboarding Course

Experience the natural perspective of Stand Up Paddleboarding through this American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructor Certified Course! The curriculum is designed to ensure your maximum enjoyment by providing water safety awareness & proper skill development to get you paddling efficiently & boost your confidence while SUPing! Essential gear, rescue techniques and trip planning will also be discussed. Participation cards and reference materials will be issued upon completion. We provide you with a stable Paddle Board, Paddle, PFD, Leash and ACA Certified Instructor.

American Canoe Association Kayak Course

The American Canoe Association (ACA) Instructor Certified Course and curriculum is designed to ensure your maximum enjoyment by providing water safety awareness and proper skill development. Essential gear, rescue techniques and trip planning will also be discussed. Participation cards and reference materials will be issued upon completion, so you can continue to refine your paddling technique and boost your confidence while on the water! We provide you with a stable Kayak, Paddle, PFD, and ACA Certified Instructor.

What to Bring

What to Bring/Recommended Gear: Water Shoes, yes your feet will get wet!  Lightweight breathable clothing, hat, and/or sunglasses, sunscreen, plenty of water and snacks. Bring a towel and set of dry clothes to change into just in case. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After the lesson, a variety of kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards will be available for you to demo and practice your newfound skills.
