OHIO RIVER TRAIL COUNCIL
Gear & Cheer Music Festival Orienteering
Orienteering is a form of land navigation. It is for all ages and degrees of fitness and skill, and all-weather. It provides the suspense and excitement of a treasure hunt. The object of orienteering is to locate control points by using a map and compass to navigate through the woods. Called "the art of map and compass reading," orienteering is a fun way to exercise and build wilderness navigational and survival skills. Orienteering can be enjoyed as a walk in the woods or as a competitive sport.
Please arrive for the workshop, instruction, map distribution, and sign In at 10:30 am. The mass start for the 60 minute Score Course is at 11am and will finish by NOON.
Participants must have clothing and shoes appropriate for hiking, compass, and a time-keeping device to know when the hour is up to return to the finish line. A limited amount of compasses are available for loan.
This orienteering event is appropriate for beginner or intermediate skill levels and children are welcome to participate with adult supervision. Rain or shine.
